Kohima’s first international film festival: stories from the hills find the big screen
Forty-two films from 11 countries screened in a city better known for its war cemetery than its cinemas.
Kohima’s first international film festival filled the city’s single multiplex and a converted school hall for five days, screening 42 films from 11 countries.
The centrepiece was ‘The Headhunter’s Granddaughter’, a Naga feature that took four years to make and is now on the festival circuit. Its director hopes the festival becomes an annual fixture.
‘We have always been storytellers,’ he said at the closing ceremony. ‘This is just a new fire to sit around.’
