Dimapur’s poultry traders bet on cold chain as prices soar

A new cold-storage hub aims to smooth the price swings that punish Nagaland's poultry farmers.

Dimapur’s poultry market, the largest in Nagaland, has long been hostage to boom-and-bust cycles: glut in the harvest months, scarcity and high prices in the rains.

A cooperative has opened a cold-chain hub with 200 tonnes of capacity, allowing farmers to store and sell against the calendar.

Early results are promising: poultry prices held steady through the last monsoon for the first time in memory.
