The Tizu river rafting circuit: Nagaland’s newest adventure tourism bet
Guides trained in rapid rescue are running the first commercial rafting season on the Tizu.
The Tizu river, which drops through the hills of Kiphire district on its way to the Chindwin, is running its first commercial rafting season — with guides trained in rapid rescue and camps pitched on village land.
The circuit is deliberately small: three boats, two routes, and a village-share model that puts a third of revenue into local homestays and trail maintenance.
Adventure tourism in the region has a checkered history; the Tizu operators are betting on restraint.
